today is the end of the 9am-9pm, monday to friday schedule of my Drawing Marathon class. we still have to meet from wednesday - friday for the next four weeks, to work on our own drawing series. im going to use this opportunity to work on my dp.
we had a lot of different exercises in the last 2 weeks, and made drawings with charcoal, vine charcoals, ink washes, pastel, and charcoal on gamsol + pva covered paper. one of today’s charcoal drawings really made me think of the process in making these drawings.
using our eyes, to judge the scale of things, to follow the edges of things while drawing them simultaneously, to see things in terms of planes, lights and shadows, to ‘carve’ on the charcoal covered paper using eraser to form space, objects, made me think of juhani pallasmaa ‘architecture of the senses’
” Our gaze strokes distant surfaces, contours and edges, and the unconscious tactile sensation determines the agreeableness or unpleasantness of the experience. The distant and the near are experience with the same intensity. Great architecture offers shapes and surfaces molded for the pleasurable touch of the eye”
i didnt draw the whole set, instead, i used the strings as the structure to form the composition. in making the drawing, i followed the light of the string and the objects it touched.
some of the 5’x7’drawings from the class (it needs more work)
